A Day Trip To Essaouira With Jade Flower

A warm wind with a hint of ocean aroma welcomed me as I got off the bus, revealing Essaouira’s distinct charm. After touring Morocco’s famous places —from crowded cities to vast deserts—I was drawn to the charm of this coastal treasure.

Story Behind Essaouira

Stumbling through the winding streets of Essaouira, I was able to discover more about this rich history, which dates back to the 5th century BC. The vision of Moroccan King Mohammed III, this beach town—once known as Mogador during Portuguese rule—grew and became the thriving port metropolis it is today.

Day Spent Well

I had a nice bike from Marrakech to Essaouira, with a couple of beautiful stops along the route. Even though we came across clichéd photo capturing moments, such as the goats that climb argan trees for tourists, our excitement for Essaouira’s relaxed vibe continued to grow.

When we got there, we had the option of going on our own independently or taking a walking tour with a guide. Choosing the latter, I set out to see the main attractions of Essaouira, including the ancient walls and mellah as well as the town’s busy fishing port.

Love The Ambiance

I loved the laid-back vibe of the medina with its winding lanes and quaint shops, and I found some hidden treasures, like as the Jewish quarter with its moving past. My visit to Essaouira was rounded out with a stroll down the beach and a seafood feast on a rooftop patio.

End Words

The charm of Essaouira stayed with me long after our short visit. It enthralled me with its laid-back atmosphere and gorgeous surroundings, making me want to go back and discover more of its charms. With hindsight, the day excursion to Essaouira turned out to be a pleasant day with a view of Morocco’s stunning coastline.
